July has the second Saturday (our group ride day) and the third Sunday (our trail work day) back to back this month and so we are going to focus all our attention on Blue Lake. As you probably know by now, the Mad River Enduro will be held on September 8th and a lot of work needs to be done on the trails to get them ready. So join us for both or one of the days to do some work and do some rid'n. More details to come.
Join us for our summer General Meeting & Membership Appreciation BBQ. We will give a short recap of the activities we have been working on since January and what we will be working on in the near future as well as longer term goals. Then we will be serving up delicious BBQ. More details to come.
Come join fellow members work on the Hatchery Ridge Trails in Blue Lake. There is a lot to do between now and the Mad River Enduro! Meet near the Mad River Brewery on Taylor Way at 9:50 to carpool through the gate or ride on up. Water, coffee, and bagels will be provided. Group ride to follow.
RCMBA hosts a ride the second Saturday of each month. Although some monthly rides might be local, we want to make these group rides fall a little out of the ordinary. With this in mind, we will be riding the South Fork Trinity River Trail for the June ride (originally was going to be May but was moved). The trail begins in the Hell Gate campground, just off Highway 36 near the tiny town of Forest Glen. Although the first few miles are on double-track, much of the ride is on single track as you move upriver. The trail is not technical and all abilities can enjoy it although there are a couple sections that are exposed. Riders not comfortable with this, can easily walk these sections. There is a bit of poison oak as well, really isolated to one area. This trail is an out and back and so riders can go as far as they want. Board Member Travis James has ridden this trail several times and has posted this video from 2014.
Because this is a bit of a drive (2 hours from Eureka) people are encouraged to camp for the night and make a weekend out of it, several members are planning to starting Friday night. We hope you can join us.
Ride will start at approximately 10:30.
There are two camp areas near the trail head. Hell Gate is more developed but costs some money, not much, and there is a bunch of free camping but might not have toilets. We will place some sort of sign at the split between the two campsites or on the Hell Gate Camp Site's board.
Look for a giant orange tent (image at bottom of page). We are planning on arriving around 8PM on Friday night.
Current Forecast (as of Thursday @ 08:00): This is a shift from the forecast two days ago and they have added a small chance of rain on Saturday morning and the temp will remain cool. The rain shouldn't be a big deal at all, may even help the trails a bit. The cool weather will make swimming a little less desirable as the river will still be relatively cool. BUT it should be fun nonetheless!
Please join the RCMBA Board and your fellow members for our monthly group ride at Lacks! We are lucky to coincide with the High School Team's Sponsor Appreciation BBQ and group ride, so this month we will be providing a BBQ lunch and beverages for attendees! Please RSVP (email@example.com or Facebook) so we know how many to plan for. Meet at the main parking area.
Ride begins at 10 AM with BBQ to follow
RCMBA and Mad River Brewery are partnering up to host a "Pints for non-profit" event where $1 from each pint sold this night will go to RCMBA's trail building efforts. Doug Fir and the Two by Fours will be playing so bring your dancing shoes. It's going to be so fun you'll wish it was a Friday. And New on tap is the Pulaski Red Ale, named after one of our favorite trail tools. See you at the brewery!
The RCMBA April trail day will be on the 15th (third Sunday! every month!) at the Blue Lake trails near the fish hatchery. As usual, we will work 10am- 1pm, then ride. Bring your lunch and water, and we'll have a few snacks too. The goal for this trail day is "to be determined"... possibly working on a new line to the west of existing trails, or refining a few spots on existing trails.
RCMBA will have tools on site so riding out is encouraged, or you can carpool from Taylor Way, near Mad River Brewery. enough room in the carpooling trucks for your bike. If you can't carpool, the gate at the bottom (across from the hatchery) will be open 9:50- 10:10, then it's locked behind us and we're digging!
If you're running late PLEASE don't park at the Hatchery, as it is the height of fishing season and the managers have asked that we don't park there, for now.
If you have any questions, email Tom at firstname.lastname@example.org. See you out there!
Starting and ending at the Mad River Brewery in Blue Lake, We'll be riding the classic Butler Valley loop plus the climb up to Snow Camp, over to the cutoff road and down old 299. PLEASE don't park at the Hatchery, as it is the height of fishing season and the managers have asked that we don't park there, for now. This challenging 60-mile loop will start and end at the Humboldt Redwoods State Park Visitor Center. There is about 6,000 feet of climbing and about 600 beautiful spots to take in the views!! As always, there will be a final sweep vehicle but please be self-sufficient with flat repair, tools, layers, and snacks. For more route details click here. Elevation may be exaggerated. But it's okay, just prepare for hills.
The second official Blue Lake trail day will be this coming Sunday, the 18th, at 10 AM. In the future, the trail days will be the third Sunday of each month, usually at Blue Lake but possibly elsewhere so stay tuned. The goal is to build two ridgeline sections that will connect the bottom of Half Rack to the top of Stable Genius, creating an Intermediate level descent, top to bottom. Work will start at the top of Stable Genius. We'll work 10- 1pm, then play, then maybe retire to the brewery. I will have tools on site so riding out is encouraged, but feel free to bring your favorite tool; in this case a rake would be an appropriate choice.
Bring water and a lunch, and please carpool and park near the industrial park. PLEASE don't park at the Hatchery, as it is the height of fishing season and the managers have asked that we don't park there, for now. I will leave the industrial park at 9:50 or so, so you can throw your tools in my truck and ride up. If you have any questions, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. See you out there!
